Deciding to Use Cloth Diapers?

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

Any mother wants to do the best thing they can for their new baby. It seems like every decision you makes becomes important even what type of diapers to use. Do you use disposable diapers or cloth, or a combination? There are a number of advantages and disadvantages to cloth diapers that you should consider when making your decision.

There are a number of advantages to cloth diapers over disposibles. If you are environmentally conscious cloth diapers definitely create less landfill issues, and there is less chemicals and toxins used in cloth diaper creation if you use non-bleached organic diapers. It is very rare to find a child that has an allergic reaction to cotton. You may find your child has a sensitivity to a soap you use but the cotton should not cause a reaction. There are many babies that have an issue with chemicals found in disposable diapers.

When compared to disposibles, cloth diapers are cheaper in the long run even though there is a higher cost up front. There are some people who do believe that children potty train faster when they are in cloth diapers because they can feel when they are wet. The earlier potty training also helps to reduce the cost over all.

There are a number of disadvantages to cloth diapers also. Some daycares will not use them so you will end up using disposable diapers during that time. You will have to be doing a lot of laundry to keep up with the dirty diapers. There is also a time commitment when it comes to using cloth diapers because of the laundry factor.

You are the only one who can decide what diapers is going to work best for you. If you live in a larger city, you can check into diaper services.  That way you don’t even have to worry about them in your laundry. These are companies who will actually bring clean diapers to your door and take your dirty cloth diapers to wash in industrial washers. You get extremely clean and well cared for diapers with little fuss on your end.
